About Monroe County Criminal History

Monroe County criminal records are divided among offices in Sparta and statewide systems in Wisconsin. The Monroe County Sheriff keeps sheriff reports and jail material, while the Clerk of Courts maintains filed Circuit Court cases. Wisconsin DOJ's Crime Information Bureau holds the central criminal-history repository, and Wisconsin DOC runs both corrections records and the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry. We organize those distinct sources so readers can identify the right official portal, counter, address, or phone line without treating unlike records as one file.

Why We Built This Site

Wisconsin law generally favors public access to government records, yet each custodian controls a different part of the file. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office holds its incident reports, booking material, and monthly warrant list. The Monroe County Clerk of Courts keeps charges, orders, and dispositions filed in Circuit Court. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Information Bureau operates the statewide criminal-history repository, while the Wisconsin Department of Corrections maintains corrections information and the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry. This site brings together official contacts, search routes, fees, and request steps for those separate sources.

What We Cannot Do

This is a privately run reference site, not part of Monroe County or the State of Wisconsin. It has no connection to the Sheriff, Clerk of Courts, Circuit Court, police departments, Wisconsin DOJ, or Wisconsin DOC. Those limits mean:

  • We cannot issue a certified court document, criminal history, or other official record
  • We cannot submit an expungement petition, public-records request, or court filing for a visitor
  • We cannot retrieve a person's file or perform an official background check
  • We cannot advise anyone about a charge, warrant, conviction, or case
  • We cannot promise that an agency's current fees, hours, address, or phone number will never change

An official copy must come from its custodian, such as the Monroe County Sheriff, Clerk of Courts, or Wisconsin DOJ Crime Information Bureau.

Search Partners

Outside providers power search boxes that appear on some pages. Each provider controls its own service, results, and prices. If a visitor follows one of those tools and purchases a service, this site may receive a referral fee that supports free access to the reference material. We do not set a partner's charges or decide which information its search returns.
